Platinum Credit Heathens 8-19 Stanbic Black Pirates
Season Double for Black Pirates
Unlike previous editions of the Uganda Cup, this year’s final took on a historic twist as it was hosted at Namboole Stadium for the very first time. In a thrilling showdown, the Stanbic Black Pirates cemented their place in Ugandan rugby history, completing a remarkable season double after edging the Platinum Credit Heathens 19–8. The victory not only secured the Cup but also underscored their dominance, while leaving the Heathens with the tough task of regrouping after a challenging campaign.
First Half: Pirates Take the Lead
The match started as any final should, with both teams showing mutual respect and vying for dominance. A Norbert Okeny try and a William Nkore penalty gave the Pirates a slight edge, with the score standing at 5-3 after the opening exchanges. However, after a brief water break, the Pirates shifted gears, seizing control of the match and taking a 10-5 lead into halftime. Despite their efforts, the Heathens struggled to match the Pirates’ relentless attack.
Haruna Muhammad Leads the Charge
Haruna Muhammad was a constant threat for the Pirates, creating several opportunities. In one memorable play, Muhammad broke through the Heathens’ defense, offloading to Roy Kizito before the Pirates’ Isaac Massa scored the first try of the match. Nkore successfully converted, setting the Pirates up for a strong second half.

Second Half: Heathens Fight Back but Fall Short
The Heathens rallied in the second half, with Marvin Asaba’s introduction adding much-needed intensity to their forward play. However, despite sustained pressure and a yellow card for Haruna Muhammad, they failed to capitalize on a prolonged attack in the Pirates’ five-meter zone. Asaba did manage to reduce the deficit with a penalty, bringing the score to 13-8, but the Pirates’ defense held firm.

Nkore Seals the Victory
In a man-of-the-match performance, William Nkore added two more penalties to secure the Pirates’ victory and confirm their dominance in the season. With the final score at 17-8, the Pirates finished the 2025 rugby season with a well-deserved double.

The Black Pirates’ triumph in the Uganda Cup marks a remarkable achievement, sandwiching their National 15s league title with another piece of silverware. Their performance in this final further emphasizes their dominance in Ugandan rugby, although their National 7s campaign remained lackluster. The Pirates’ continued success leaves them well-positioned for future seasons as they aim to build on their impressive accomplishments.
