Enzo Maresca Creates Big Problem at Chelsea, Carragher Says

Enzo Maresca’s recent cryptic comments have caused a stir at Chelsea, and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher believes the head coach has created a “big problem” for himself. Maresca’s remarks, made after Chelsea’s win against Everton, sparked speculation about his relationship with the club’s ownership and sporting directors. This has led Carragher to suggest that Maresca may not be at Chelsea next season.

Maresca, who had been at Chelsea since last summer, referred to the two days leading up to Chelsea’s victory over Everton as “the worst 48 hours” since joining the club. His cryptic comments came after a frustrating 2-1 loss to Atalanta, leaving Chelsea without a win in four games. When asked about the remarks in a press conference before Chelsea’s Carabao Cup match against Cardiff, Maresca refused to clarify, fueling further speculation that he was indirectly referring to the club’s ownership and sporting directors.

Carragher’s View on Maresca’s Chelsea Problem

Jamie Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football, said that Maresca’s public comments have created a “big problem” for him. Carragher believes that when a manager speaks out publicly about ownership or management, it signals a power struggle that rarely ends well for the coach. “When you come out and speak about your ownership like that and speak in public, that’s a big problem,” Carragher explained.

He pointed out that Maresca is likely targeting the club’s leadership, including the sporting directors, as he alluded to in his comments. “It looks like there’s a bit of a power play starting,” Carragher continued. “And that never bodes well for a manager.”

Maresca’s Cryptic Comments and Chelsea’s Management

Maresca’s comments have prompted questions about his future at Chelsea. After his remarks about the “worst 48 hours,” he has refused to directly address who he was referring to, although many believe it was aimed at Chelsea’s leadership. Carragher noted that this situation often leads to only one outcome: “There is usually only one winner in situations like this, and it’s not the manager.”

Chelsea fans and pundits alike have been speculating whether Maresca, who was initially appointed under a structure that included sporting directors, is now feeling unsupported by the same leadership he initially agreed to work with. His frustration seems to stem from Chelsea’s failure to sign a key defensive player in the summer, which became evident when Levi Colwill suffered a major injury.

Carragher Compares Maresca’s Situation to Mo Salah’s Outburst

Carragher also compared Maresca’s situation to that of Mo Salah’s recent comments at Liverpool. While Carragher acknowledged that Maresca’s case isn’t as extreme, he still believes the public airing of grievances is problematic. “I don’t like people going public, whether it’s a manager or a player. You sort it in-house,” Carragher remarked. He added that, like Salah’s situation at Liverpool, Maresca’s comments could lead to a negative outcome for the manager.

Maresca’s decision to go public with his discontent could undermine his position at Chelsea. While Carragher praised Maresca’s coaching ability, he stated that the situation is now a delicate one for the Italian. “He’s done a great job, but the question now is, where could Maresca go that is better than Chelsea?” Carragher pondered.
