The future of Brazilian wonderkid Endrick has taken another unexpected turn, with new reports suggesting Real Madrid could recall him from Lyon before the end of January following the dismissal of head coach Xabi Alonso.
Endrick only joined Olympique Lyon earlier this month on a short-term loan, but Real Madrid’s coaching change has reopened discussions about his immediate role at the Santiago Bernabeu. The Spanish giants hold a recall clause in the agreement, giving them the option to bring the teenager back quickly.
Before his move to France, Endrick struggled for minutes at Real Madrid. Under Alonso, the 19-year-old made just four senior appearances during the first half of the season. Injury setbacks and a red card against Celta Vigo in December limited his opportunities, and he failed to score for the club after April 2025.
A loan move had long been viewed as the best option for his development, with interest from several European clubs, including sides in the Premier League. Lyon ultimately secured his signature, believing Ligue 1 would provide the right balance of competition and playing time.
That decision appeared justified almost immediately. Endrick made a strong impression on his debut in the Coupe de France, scoring against Lille and showing the attacking spark Lyon had been missing. His performance drew attention back in Madrid, where club officials have been closely monitoring his progress.
The situation shifted again when Real Madrid parted ways with Alonso following a Super Cup final defeat to Barcelona. With Álvaro Arbeloa stepping in as caretaker, several players are now set to start with a clean slate, including Endrick.
It has been confirmed that Real Madrid’s recall clause must be activated by January 20. However, despite the managerial change, there is growing belief that the club will allow Endrick to remain in France for now to continue gaining regular minutes.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has indicated that Madrid are pleased with Endrick’s early impact at Lyon and have no immediate plans to trigger the clause. He added that the player is also happy with his fresh start after scoring on debut.
While a surprise return to Spain remains technically possible, the current expectation is that Endrick will complete his loan spell, using consistent game time in Ligue 1 to rebuild confidence and momentum. For now, Real Madrid appear content to watch his progress from afar as they prepare for a new chapter under incoming leadership.
